Trivia Time #2
As the natural follwup to an earlier post using Baseball-Referrence to look up the Indiana-born player with the most career major league hits (and on account of seeing Carl Erskine on the Indianapolis Indians TV broadcast this afternoon) I decided to use the same source to find the Indiana-born pitcher with the most career wins.
The answer? Terre Haute-born Tommy John, who has had the misfortune of becoming more famous for the surgical procedure named after him than for his pitching career, had 288 career wins with 6 teams.
There are a good number of Indiana-birthed hurlers who notched 200 wins, including the aforementioned "Three-Finger" Brown and Amos Rusie, the "Hoosier Thunderbolt," who won 245 games before he was traded for Christy Mathewson, and none after.
